On January 23, Samsung unveiled AI smartphones to bend off the US and Chinese rivals. The South Korean company launched the Galaxy S25 model, which is powered by Qualcomm AI chips at the event in California. TM Roh, Samsung customer experience chief said, “They will set a new standard in mobile innovation.” A lot depends on the success of Samsung AI smartphones.

Recently, Samsung released its preliminary fourth-quarter monthly report, the company underperformed and profit missed analysts’ expectations by a large margin. Experts say the company is also struggling with declining sales of its once-promising foldable phones.
Samsung’s New AI Smartphones
On Wednesday, Samsung Electronics revealed its latest AI smartphones and showed off a slimmer version of its flagship models at an event in California. The Galaxy S25 Edge is set to launch in the first half of this year, ahead of Apple’s new iPhone. “We’re ahead of the industry with our AI features, and I believe we’re on the right path,” said Park Ji-sun, Samsung’s executive vice president in charge of the Language AI team.
The Galaxy S25 series is priced between $799 and $1,299. The new Galaxy S25 uses Google’s Gemini AI engine and includes Samsung’s upgraded Bixby voice assistant, Park added. The two tools work together, with Bixby playing a vital role at Samsung, which offers everything from mobile phones to TVs and home appliances, he said.
Samsung and Gemini AI Collaboration
The new phones use Google’s Gemini AI system, promising a more personalized experience.
Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis appeared in a video at the event and said, “We believe the future of AI is Agentic Systems—ones that can perform tasks for you. We’re thrilled to partner with Samsung to bring these innovations to the Gemini app.”
Unveiling the Samsung Galaxy S25 Features
The Galaxy S25 will provide a more personalized AI experience. For instance, its “Now Brief” service makes recommendations based on personal data stored and processed on the phone for privacy. It will show customized items like calendars, news, and bedroom air quality, including temperature and CO2 levels, Park said.
The phone can handle multiple tasks with one command, like finding upcoming sports events and adding them to the user’s calendar.
Samsung Stock Update
Samsung shares dropped 1.1%, underperforming the broader market’s 0.4% loss. Using a Qualcomm chip is a blow to Samsung’s chip business, which relies on its mobile division as a major customer.
Samsung didn’t explain why it chose not to use its chips in the new model. According to a source Samsung plans to use its Exynos chip in upcoming foldable phones later this year.
