Apple’s goal to make new AI improvements to its voice assistant Siri has hit a major roadblock. The ambitious new Siri avatar faces shall face more delays due to many issues and the update could be available as late as 2026.
In a statement, Apple said the upgraded Siri with AI features, which are part of its broader Apple Intelligence suite, will “take us longer than we thought to deliver,” and it now expects to launch them in the “coming year.”
Apple Siri AI delay
On Friday, the company’s spokesperson Jacqueline Roy said, Apple’s updated AI version of it voice assistant Siri launch is delayed up until 2026. The development would mean more artificial intelligence-powered personalised improvements for Siri. With the new upgrade, Siri would have been able to take action within other apps.
In a statement, Apple said it has “been working on a more personalized Siri, giving it more awareness of your personal context, as well as the ability to take action for you within and across your apps. It’s going to take us longer than we thought to deliver on these features and we anticipate rolling them out in the coming year.”
Why there is a delay in Apple Siri AI update?
Apple provided no reason for the delay, though previously it had confirmed that the updated Siri AI features would come in 2025.
Apple users are already addicted to the current version of Siri with features like product knowledge and integration with AI chatbot ChatGPT.
Last year, Apple announced a range of AI-driven features called Apple Intelligence that included new capabilities such as rewriting emails and summarizing a cluttered inbox.
Some of the biggest improvements were aimed at giving its Siri assistant the ability to get in and out of apps. It could also complete tasks for a user by tapping into information stored on Apple devices.
Apple’s cloud computing infrastructure
Apple has been building a vast new cloud-computing infrastructure that runs on its own chips in an effort to maintain its privacy stance while delivering AI features. Siri has around 1.5B user requests per day, as per Apple.
Apple Intelligence updates
Apple announced that its personal intelligence system, Apple Intelligence, was expanding in more languages and regions ass announced on February 21. As per the official press release, “Apple Intelligence will continue to expand with new features in the coming months, including more capabilities for Siri”.
However, Apple’s Siri AI update delayed to 2026 signals towards the challenges for the tech giant, as it has work really hard to fall behind OpenAI, Amazon and Google few of it’s biggest rivals.
Siri vs Google Gemini
The Apple’s rivals are all rushing to add AI features to their voice assistants. Alphabet’s Google added Gemini model to its assistant last year. Last month Amazon rolled out an AI-driven overhaul of its Alexa assistant, with new capabilities. It would be free for Prime program subscribers but otherwise would cost $19.99 a month.
